Cultural Geography: Language
Today in class we talked about cultural geography. Some characteristics of cultural geography are that groups of people teach each other things. Ideas and themes spread like crazy when people hang out with each because they teach each other about them. These themes and ideas can either link together or divide a group. Some things that people teach others is languages. The Spanish language unites the Hispanic world. But it Brazil, some people speak Portuguese and some people speak Spanish. Does this mean that the people of Brazil hate each other? No, it means that different parts of Brazil speak different languages because that's what they have been taught. In the world today, English is considered the world's language. This doesn't mean that people who speak English and people that speak Spanish don't like each other, It just means that if the people you grow up with teach you the language they speak and it's different all around the world. That's what makes people different from one another. Some people are lucky enough to be able to speak more than one language and that's a good thing because it means you can talk and hang out with people that aren't in the group that you grew up with or that you hang out with.

Presentations
Today in class we did presentations. There were three groups and they each got a different topic. My groups topic was Native Americans. Native Americans arrived in America about 12,000 to 17,000 years ago. They got here by the Ice Bridge. The Ice Bridge is a giant bridge made of ice that goes from Russia all the way to Alaska. The Native Americans followed the mammoths all the way down this bridge. Native Americans were the first people to ever live in the United States, as far as history tells us. They had to fight to survive. They had to find water and food. They also had to protect their lands form any dangerous threats. They came to the United States so they could live better and find new resources. But they didn't just settle in America and just stay there. They kept moving. This is what I learned about the Native Americans.

Class Today
Today in class we got our tests back. I didn't do very well and I'm not very happy but I'll do better next time. We then got into groups and are doing a presentation on either Native Americans, Columbus, or Vikings. I got Native Americans. All the groups had to look up eight different questions about our topic. The question I had to answer was "Did they stay in American for any length of time?". The answer is well Native Americans are still in America today. They have been in America for over 50,000 years. They were in America for about or maybe more than 48,00 years before anyone even thought about America. Before we started calling it USA, they called it Turtle Land. I thought this was very interesting. Hopefully i can learn more about Native Americans by reading my other group members answers to the questions they have to answer.

How to Help
Today in class we talked about a list of organizations that we could possible help to help the kids in Africa and Sudan. There were a lot of good ones but one that tuck out to me the most was one that me and Hailey found. It is called "Aid for Africa". Aid for Africa members support children in school, provide safe havens for orphans, and advocate for funding for children's issues. They prevent and treat different diseases, work to prevent rape and trafficking, and help women start their own businesses. Members helps families build wells, create employment, and improve health. We could help this organization but donating money adn supplies needed for building the homes. We could also provide the supplies need to try and prevent the diseases in that area. This organization also collects book to give to the children that are studying in school. I bet we could collect a ton or book that we could donate to this charity. I think we could do a lot to help out this organization. Hopefully, this will be something we will do soon.

Foundations to Help Sudan
Today in class we worked on finding foundations that we could possibly do to help Sudan. While looking for these foundations, we worked in small groups. Hailey and I worked together and found about five or six foundations that we could possibly do. One that I found that stuck out to me was "Sudan Village Care Foundation". This foundation is not a profit organization to make the dream of one of the lost boys of Sudan a reality by building a medical clinic in his war-torn village in South Sudan to treat many preventable diseases and to bring hope to the people of his village. I don't exactly think we could do this one but I do think it is a good idea to help the people re-build their homes. Hailey found one that is called "United Families of Sudan". This is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education, health care, and economic development in Southern Sudan. I also don't think we could do much to help this foundation but I think it is something we should find a way to help with. There are many other foundations that we can help with but these are just a few that we found.

The end of God Grew Tired of Us.
Today in class we finally finished the movie, God Grew Tired of Us. John ended up making enough money so that his mom and another family member or friend could come to the United States. I am not sure if it was to live there or just to visit. This was the first time in seventeen years that John and his mom have seen each other. His mom was so happy, she started dancing and singing in the airport. But in the end, John returned to Sudan with his bachelors degree. He started a non profit organization and a medical clinic. He now supports his family. Panther returned to Sudan also and got married to the girl he loves. He also reunited with his mother and brother. Panther also got his bachelors degree and he wants to open a school in Sudan. Daniel kept working in the job core. Daniel still hasn't found any of his family member and he might never will. I would be interested in helping raise money or other things to send to Sudan to help the people that live there. I think it would be a good idea to raise can goods and other food like that and send it to Sudan. I think they would really appreciate that and I would feel good about doing it.
