Cultural Geography: Religion Continued
During class today, we went over some more different types of religion. Today we went over Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. We first went over Islam. The religion of Islam is practiced by the descendants of Abraham. Their holy book is called Koran or Qur'an. This is the second most practiced religion in the world. It is most popular in Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Middle East. There are two major groups in this religion. They are called Sunnis and Shiites. They have been fighting ever since 632 when the founder of Islam, Muhammad, died. We also talked about Hinduism. Hinduism is neither monotheistic or polytheistic. There is one billion people around the world that practice this religion. This religion is most practiced in India. The last religion we talked about today was Buddhism. Buddhism followers worship Buddha. Buddha is know has "the enlightened one". This is also neither monotheistic not polytheistic. They go by the Eightfold Path. The Eightfold Path is about having the right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. These are the religion that we learned about in class today.
